Large or complex changes in the workplace can be difficult to achieve without the cooperation and active participation of staff. You can tell staff to make change but unless they understand why and how and are given the appropriate resources to make the change, the process will often fail. Good approaches to change will include getting staff to understand why change is being made, how it can benefit them and how they can put forward ideas to help make the change successful. Changes in technology can leave staff confused and sometimes fearful, so communication and engagement is vital to ensure a smooth transition. Perhaps most importantly change must be embraced from the top down. Without clear direction or support from the highest level of management, any change will be very difficult to implement.
